This year I want to expand and focus. I am often distracted and end up doing little bits here and there that don’t amount to much. I’m trying to think long term, without becoming overwhelmed. I’m trying to think immediate results, what can I do now that will amount to something in the end.  Sticking to my goals without deviating from the path set before me.

Joshua and Caleb is the name I decided on for my boys clothing and other range. Joshua and Caleb in the bible story were 2 out of a group of 12 spies sent to check out the land ‘Canan’ - it was a good land, full of milk and honey.  10 of the spies came back reporting that it was good but the people that lived there were giants. It was only Joshua and Caleb that said “This is true, but God is with us - we should take the land”. I love that despite the obstacle these 2 bold men held on to one important point ‘God was with them’. I don’t necessarily like or dislike either of the names but I’m a sucker for meanings behind names… Strength from something mightier than oneself, boldness to say it out loud, childlike faith to just believe, no fear whatever the obstacle.

My boys are very active and inquisitive children. I wanted a clothing range that mirrored this. I almost feel that active and inquisitive are on the two opposite ends of a scale. Active is often seen as an unending energy. Inquisitive somehow spells peaceable, still, reflective.

And so a name is born…. Joshua and Caleb.

There are many ideas, so many fabrics and patterns to choose from. The past few months some of these ideas have evolved and my goal has become a little clearer. My passion for sewing was cemented when a friend who lives up the road showed me the simplicity of sewing. So from shorts to vests, hats, pants and swim-wear my skills are improving, and although I want to do everything all at once I realise I can’t and need to start somewhere.  I first started by making clothing in a particular size and fabric, but soon realised that this wouldn’t work so came up with the idea of sewing by consignment I guess. It only takes a day or two to complete a project and with the rate of postage times these days the buyer can have their very own designed clothing piece in the right size within the week.

I’ve set up a shop on both http://www.madeit.com.au/storecatalog.asp?userid=18807

and http://www.etsy.com/shop/JoshuaAndCalebBC I have new ideas up my sleeve and hope to roll them out this year.
